It’s all temporary!

Reason # 2: You can count it all joy because your circumstances are only temporary!

Today is a different day than yesterday and tomorrow. Each 24-hour day unfolds a unique set of circumstances that we can consider temporary because they are subject to change with the passage of time. Indeed, scripture reminds us of this noting that “the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18 NKJV).

If our circumstances are subject to change, then we can choose to not to let our temporary “problems” make us bitter but better. We can shift our focus to becoming a better person in three distinct ways:

1) Maintain a positive attitude: this is an important key to personal victory. Murmuring and complaining about current circumstances robs us of our joy, prolongs our suffering and causes needless pain for the people that we love. When we are negative we often fail to see the seemingly good things around us.

2) Develop patience: we all have the inner ability to exercise the fruit of patience during times of trouble. It has the potential to build our character and bring us into maturity. Patience is not a passive state of sitting around and waiting. Rather, it is steadfastly carrying on until circumstances change.

3) Ask for help: sometimes temporary circumstances provides a great opportunity to ask for help. It has been said that “no man is an island unto himself” and “everybody needs a little help sometimes.”  First, ask God for help—He will work all things together for your good! Second, reach out and receive help from friends and family—they are another form of God’s arms extended.

We can stay in joy, when we remember our circumstances are only temporary. In fact, if we are wise we can use the circumstances to become a much stronger and wiser person than before. Our spiritual growth can then be a source of encouragement and hope for others experiencing their own temporary circumstances.
